Boho vibes + doc martens

We had so much fun today working on a boho inspired wedding shoot for a friend.  Tiffany worked her magic, per usual and no fire ant encounters this time around!  I threw on my Doc Martens to put my own spin on the shoot.  I so love the boots.  They're a little bit expensive, but you'll have them forever!!!

My lipstick collection

I love lipstick.  I've been trying different shades and brands over the past few years, and there are so many choices that it can get overwhelming.  Lipstick is so individual...what some people love, other people hate.  Some like their lipstick glossy, others like a matte finish.  Many women are so overwhelmed that they forego it all together!

Here's a quick break down of what I've tried, what I love the most...

1.  Nyx matte lipstick.  I LOVE a matte lipstick.  I think the color looks more vibrant, and I like a velvety finish.  Nyx is one of my tops picks for two reasons.  One, because it's extremely affordable (only $5.99), and two, the lipstick has some serious staying power.  I don't usually have to touch it up at all in a 12 hour period.  Need I say more?

2.  Gerard cosmetics matte lipstick.  This lipstick is a bit more pricey at $20 a tube, so I only have a few of their colors.  I will say this though, it stays on your lips all day like the Nyx, but it WON'T transfer to your cup, fork, babies cheeks! Keep an eye out for when they have a sale if you're on a tight budget.

3.  Mary Kay lip gloss.  I love this gloss and it comes in a million color choices.  Only down side?  You will have to reapply it several times a day, especially after you eat.  If you don't mind a touch up every now and then though, this one might be for you.  Also, it's affordable!

4.  Lipsense.  How many of you have tried the Lipsense lipstick and gloss combo?  This is a bit of an investment, as you have to buy the color AND the gloss to top it, but if you like your lipstick to stay put all day and you like to mix and match colors and sheens, this one might be for you.  Lipsense is also the best I've tried if you're concerned with staying power and not transferring to everything your lips touch.  (Again, good for mommies out there!)

I hope this helps some of you who are overwhelmed with lipstick choices.  I really do feel like it completes your look and that every woman should at least try it!  Have a great week everyone!

Younique product reviews are in!

I am so excited to talk about makeup today.  I've reviewed 4 products today in detail, so check them out below!!

1.  First up, touch glorious face primer.  I have blogged about face primers before and how important I think they are, but let me reiterate.  Primers are not just a gimmick or something to overlook.  For a long time, I did think this to be true, but now that I actually use one, I understand that this is not the case at all!  This 'glorious' face primer in particular is wonderful because it fills in your pores and gives you a velvety smooth finish before you even get to your foundation.  Who knew a little clear gel could do all that?  When you apply your foundation on top of a primer, it then looks more smooth and flawless.  Plus the bonus?  Your foundation will stay on longer.  I love this product and it really does make my skin look smoother.  It feels softer as well!

2.  Next up, let's talk shadow.  I tried two different colors of mineral shadow, and love them both for different reasons.  One is a gold/bronze color called 'confident' and has a little bit of a shimmer to it, and the other is a bold matte shadow in the color 'corrupted.'  I love the gold color as it is perfect for a summer beach goddess type of look.  Smear a little under the eye as well for a smokey bronze effect.  The black/grey matte shadow is also a fun color and can be used as eyeliner as well.  If I do a darker smokey eye with 'corrupted,' I'll keep the lips neutral with either a nude lipstick, or just a clear gloss.  Side note:  a little bit of this product goes a LONG way, so use sparingly.  You can always add more later if needed.

3.  Third... eye shadow application with a shadow brush.  I generally don't use a loose shadow or apply it with a shadow brush, but this combo is actually SUPER easy to use!  I found myself sweeping it on with the brush and blending it in nicely even when I was in a hurry to get out the door!  It blends easily with this brush and looks really pretty!  I usually use my finger, or one of those tiny sponge tips to apply my shadow, and it takes me a million years to blend it and get it how I want it to look.  So this was definitely a nice change.

4.  Lastly, eyeliner.  Finding the perfect eyeliner has been hard for me.  Most of the time, I feel like the pencil is too thick, and if it's too thick and wide, then it looks bad on your eye.  This is another topic I often talk about, and I feel so strongly that so many women are doing it wrong, (including myself in the past!)  By merely trying to look BETTER with a thick line, we are unintentionally making ourselves look WORSE!  Stick to a very thin pencil like this precision liner, and only do the top of your eye.  If you have a thicker pencil, ONLY DO THE WATERLINE!

Seriously, if there is one thing anyone takes from all of my blog posts, this is the one I want to impress upon people!  You will look beautiful and confident, and people will notice and compliment you!  Another tip for shadow/liner that I love and often use...if you love the look of liner on the bottom, just use your shadow and smudge a little under your bottom lash instead of a harsh eyeliner.  It still makes your eye look smokey and beautiful but is softer looking and won't completely close your eye off like a big fat line of black liner under your eye!

In the pictures above, I am wearing Younique glorious face primer,  Younique mineral shadow in the color confident, and the Younique precision pencil eyeliner.  All products are linked above.

Honestly West x Stella & Dot

I think by now, you all know how much I love Stella & Dot! I wanted to quickly share my latest favorite piece by the brand.  I have had my eye on this ear cuff for a while and am so excited to wear it this spring and summer!  I enjoy simple pieces of jewelry just as much as a statement look, and this little cuff is just edgy enough, yet still feminine and pretty!  You can literally wear it with anything.  It's also at a fantastic price point, which is always a plus in my book.  I've been combining it with my pave ear climbers for a fun layered look.  I have added some photos including some of my favorites from their Covet line as well for those of you who haven't seen it yet.  So pretty and elegant!

Ear cuff (comes in silver or gold)

Pave ear climbers (also comes in silver or gold)

I also adore this cream colored purse from their new covet line. So classic and chic!

3 tips for a beautiful space

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am BIG on ambiance.  If I go to a restaurant and the food is great but the ambiance or color schemes are bad, chances are I won't return.  I approach my home decor as I do my fashion sense.  Simple, neutral tones with a hint of femininity.  Here are my top 3 tips for making your space beautiful:

1.  I've always been a flower child.  Flowers just make everything better, so with that being said, fresh floral arrangements are my number 1 secret.  Having fresh flowers in the house just makes me feel special.  It dresses up the table or counter, brightens up the house, and just gives me a good feeling.  I try not to wait for a special occasion to bring fresh blooms into the house.  Any time is perfect for me.  Luckily I have a sweet husband who knows to bring flowers home every now and then.  It's the little things, you know?

2.  Lighting.  You absolutely MUST have lamps in the house, and they MUST be pretty.  I think my love for lighting comes from growing up in Seattle where it's very gloomy all winter.  Lots of cozy lighting just makes the long dark days more bearable. I've had this table lamp with the floral shade for several years now, and it was completely worth the splurge.  It is so beautiful, and really dresses up the room.

3.  My 3rd and final must have:  greenery.  I love a pop of green throughout the house.  This boxwood wreath is my FAVORITE and I keep it up year round.  It reminds me of living in an English cottage in the countryside.

Honestly West x Fleur-Di-Re

I've teamed up with Fleur-Di-Re and Tiffany Redmon Photography for this post to bring you a Coachella inspired shoot!  I loved wearing this crown made of fresh greenery.  It was a dreamy and whimsical afternoon among the flowers.  (The only minor setback was that I stepped onto a fire ant hill with my bare feet! OUCH!)  The things you'll do for the perfect location.  I think it paid off though.  Sometimes taking a risk is worth it!!!
