Take care in the details

I absolutely love home decor, and it’s been fun to find our style and what works for our family in the new house. I am a firm believer in surrounding yourself with things you love. It’s so important to feel good while in your home. This sounds silly, but it’s taken me over 10 years of owning a home and trying different things to kind of find my niche in home decor. What I’ve learned is that I don’t like a lot of “stuff.” I like simple, peaceful spaces that bring me calm and bring me joy. What that means is the only pieces I do use are ones that I adore. Whether it’s your grandmother’s antique candlestick holders, or a pretty coaster set from at Sur La Table, take care in the things you buy and only fill your home with things that you absolutely adore. You’ll find yourself WANTING to be home more when surrounded by pieces you carefully curated for your home. So save up for those seemingly silly coasters or flowers that set your soul on fire. Pay attention to that feeling when you see something in a store or magazine that makes you excited. Then save for it or find an inexpensive version! I love the pieces in our home and it truly brings me joy to be surrounded by the things I love, whether they’re big or small. Here are a few things that I love and ideas for your own home to get you started…

Gold candlestick holders

Coasters

Silk peonies (they’re an investment but will last forever!)

Fairy lights

House plants (if you can't keep real ones alive!)

Y’all know I LOVE house plants. I love the pop of green and the vibe plants bring to home decor. What I DON’T love is spending money on real plants only to have them die a few months later. Generally speaking, most of my indoor plants are actually real…I’m so proud of my huge fiddle leaf fig that I’ve managed to keep alive for 8 months! Sometimes though, they just don’t want to cooperate. OR, I want them in a place that just doesn’t have enough light, like our basement. For those times, look into a good artificial option. I’ve linked my favorite 3 for you below from West Elm. If you want a more affordable option for faux house plants, I also suggest Target, Hobby Lobby or World Market.

If you haven’t ever decorated with plants before, I highly recommend giving it a go. Plants weirdly make me really happy and bring a sense of calm to our home. Happy shopping, everyone!

Up the coziness factor

The cooler months are upon us, (or ALMOST for my southern friends) so I thought this would be the perfect time to do a blog post linking some of my favorite cozy pillows and blankets. The great thing about our generation is you can find cute things without breaking the bank thanks to places like Costco, Target, and Home Goods! I’d even scope out Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie if you’re on the pillow hunt. Here are my very favorites…
